3 Reasons to Have an IPEVO Document Camera in Your Classroom

Back in the fall, I received a new document camera from IPEVO, and it has quickly become a relied-upon piece of classroom technology. If you don't already have access to a document camera at school, check out these 3 reasons to have an IPEVO document camera in your classroom.

This post is part of a partnership with IPEVO, but all thoughts and opinions about the products are my own. I don't promote what I don't love!

I have never had a document camera in my classroom.

I know... that sounds hard to believe, doesn't it? Document cameras have been around in our school for a long time, but I've never bothered hooking one up in my classroom, mostly for the lack of space.

So when I was approached by IPEVO to try out their small VZ-R HDMI/USB Dual Mode 8MP model I was intrigued, and this quickly became one of my favorite pieces of classroom tech.

Easy to Assemble

The first thing I noticed when the document camera arrived was its small size and compact packaging.

There are not many pieces inside the box, making assembly very straightforward and simple. Nothing is required beyond what is included.

Assembling the document camera was as simple as lining up the holes in the base with the arm of the camera and securing it with the included screws using the handy screwdriver tool.

I think the entire assembly process took me less than five minutes!

Compact Design

The first thing I noticed after putting my document camera together was how little space it took up. I have the camera sitting right on my desk attached to my computer and SMART Board, and it is not in my way at all. Because of the heavy base, I have no worries about it being secure on my desk.

Easy to Use

This IPEVO document camera is straightforward to use. Some of my favorite things about it are:
  • This model doesn't require a computer to use. Use an HDMI cable (not included) to connect directly to a television or projector.
  • The free IPEVO Visualizer software was simple to install onto my computer.
  • The camera is of great quality and creates an excellent image on my SMART Board.
  • It has a zoom feature that I can use to get closer to the details I want my students to notice.
  • There is a small light that we've found helpful in my classroom. My SMART Board bulb is not very bright right now with no replacement in sight, so we have to keep the lights off in the classroom when we're using it. The light on the head of the camera makes mirroring the content I'm sharing clearer.
  • The head has several joints and can swivel, so capturing a great image is always easy.

The only thing that I would change about my document camera would be to have a slightly longer cord so that I could move it farther away from my computer to give my students better access. For my purposes, having it connected this way is the best option, but having students at my desk isn't ideal.
