We started by checking out the characteristics of fairy tales with our Fairy Tale Anchor Book and talking about the examples of these that we could remember from familiar stories.
They LOVE their little Mini Books!
Next, during read-aloud the students have been hunting for examples of the characteristics and recording their findings on stickies. Anyone who has ever put stickies in the hands of a child know they're a hit every time.
We read The Three Billy Goats Gruff, which the kids thought was hilarious, and they posted their stickies on our Fairy Tales chart.

So...What story do you recommend for tomorrow's lesson??
I'm always amazed at the fairy tales and nursery rhymes so many of my class don't know - I find it so sad they they don't have them read to them at home. Jack and the Beanstalk is always a favourite in my class!

It sure is sad, Pixie! Some of my best childhood memories involve books. I don't imagine that an iPod or a Nintendo DS will hold that same magic...

I love Fairy Tales, they bring back so many nice reading memories for me. Thanks for the freebie! For tomorrow, I would have to go with my all time favourite - Beauty and the Beast :)
ReplyDeleteYour mini-books pack is in my "cart"! So cute and useful!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Julie! My students LOVE them! I have no doubt yours will, too! :) I'm so glad you stopped by to leave a comment! :)
