About Me

How I Got Here

When I was a child, the only thing I can ever remember wanting to be was a teacher. I enrolled in the Child Studies program at Brock University here in Ontario directly out of high school, and graduated in 1997 with my Bachelor of Arts, then again in 1998 with my Bachelor of Education. I was one of the lucky new teachers to win a spot on the occasional teaching list the very next year! That first year I taught in only one classroom - for an entire 8 months! That was a very lucky supply teaching call... not only did it result in an extended position, but that's also where I met the wonderful man who would become my husband!

My Career

By September 2000 I was teaching full-time. Only two years as an occasional teacher is lucky - many new teachers in my district wait far longer before getting contract positions. For most of my career I have been a fifth grade teacher. There is something special about students at this age in a rural school... the perfect mix of independence and innocence that was a great fit for me. In September 2013, I made the leap to the primary division, teaching a class of second and third graders.

I have to admit that the little ones have grown on me! The progress I see these young minds make during their eight months with me is astounding! I try to always use a wide range of teaching approaches in order to meet the needs of all of my students - from integrating technology to using a Guided Math structure to including authentic real-world tasks, my students benefit from a range of learning activities throughout the year. I'm so happy to be able to share many of these resources with you so that I might make your days in the classroom a little easier as well! You can see all I have to offer by clicking the "Shop" tab in my menu bar.

My Life Outside of Teaching

When I'm not in school or working on my teaching products, I am a travel addict. My husband and I typically get away somewhere warm during winter and spring breaks, and usually head overseas at some point during the summer. We are very blessed to have seen so much of this wonderful world!

In St. Petersburg, Russia!

Our first time on camels in Cairo, Egypt!

Some of my other faves would definitely be spending time with our amazing families, reading, and enjoying a glass of wine with friends!

I'm so glad you've stopped by, and hope you'll continue to join me here by following with Bloglovin' or through email. I love connecting with educators from around the globe!

  3. Hello! I have a quick question. How were you able to order the Clip Chart. I have been trying, and now I see that they are not able to to ship orders outside of the U.S.
    Thanks for your help!
