Introducing New Differentiated Lessons For Guided Math

I launched my Guided Math centers back in October of 2014 and since then have connected with hundreds of teachers who have used these resources in their classrooms.

If you are using Guided Math in your classroom, this resource is for you! These differentiated lessons are designed for small-group instruction while your other students are engaged in independent guided math activities. Aligned to CCSS and the Ontario Math Curriculum.

The final package in my Guided Math centers bundle was added just about a year ago, in January of 2016, and since then I have wanted to get to the missing piece... the Teacher Time lessons.

For those of you who haven't tried these out, my centers work on this acronym:

The Teacher's Choice, or Teacher Time, is a piece that I've thought a lot about over the last year. I wanted to provide the lessons to go with the independent student centers, but I knew they needed to be above and beyond what I've seen offered online. I didn't want a bunch of surface-scratching lessons that only met the needs of the students "in the middle", so I worked for hours upon hours to create something different.

I'm very proud to share the first package of many: Differentiated Place Value Lessons.

Let me share with you what I've included in this 199-page resource (read on, or check out the video at the end of this post!):

Differentiated Lessons

In this particular package, I created 22 differentiated lessons that are aligned with both CCSS standards and Ontario Mathematics Curriculum expectations. Each topic has three lessons at a low-, mid- and high-level of ability. Every lesson is 2 pages and includes a complete, hyperlinked materials list, teaching instructions, curriculum connections, modifications and next steps. (You can see all of the standards and expectations addressed in the product preview on Teachers Pay Teachers.)

Observation/Assessment Tracking Forms

Assessment during small group lessons needs to be quick and easy. These groups don't last long and you need to make the most of the time you have. I created observation/assessment forms for each lesson that can easily be printed on regular paper, or... get this... on sticky notes!! I love printing on sticky notes. I even provided a way for you to organize those (more on that in a minute!). The forms all have "look-fors" related to the lesson you've just taught, are tagged with the standards/expectations of the lesson, and have space for you to make some notes or document next steps for each student.

Student Exit Slips

There are many lessons included in the package, and each includes either an activity for you to observe students engaging with, or it includes student exit slips. Also set up for easy printing on sticky notes, the exit slips are a quick way for you to get a snapshot of student learning. BTW... I've also included an editable exit slip template so you can further differentiate to meet the needs of your students!

Activity Masters

For some lessons, observing students during a hands-on activity is a better assessment of their understanding. I've provided all the activity masters, games, puzzles and worksheets that you'll need during the lessons.

Printable Manipulatives

Because, let's face it, not all classrooms are fully-stocked with base ten blocks and plastic money. Any time you need a math tool that may not be in your classroom, I've provided a printable version.

Teacher Tracking Sheets

Tracking all the data you are collecting is super-easy with the tracking options I've provided: included are tracking sheets by lesson level or by student. I also created collector sheets for those observation/activity forms that I mentioned already, and for the student exit slips, so you can tuck those safely into your Guided Math Teacher Binder for future reference.

Bonus Activities

The other students in your class are using my Guided Math centers while all this small-group teaching is going on, but I know that sometimes you just need a little something extra. This package contains two bonus activity centers that are not included in any of my Guided Math center sets.

I did mention that there are 199 pages, right?! 😊 Take a look at an overview of the entire package in this video:

  1. Hi Erin, Do you have any plans to bundle these differentiated resources (assuming you are creating more?) to be used during Teacher Choice Time? I am positive I will want them all so will hold off on purchasing if there's a bundle in the works.

    1. Hi Angela!

Thanks so much for the interest! That is my plan, although it is going to take quite some time to complete all of the packages and I don't yet have any concept of how big it is going to be. This package turned out far larger than I was anticipating! Perhaps after I get another couple of packages completed I'll have a better idea for pricing, etc. and will be able to get a growing bundle posted.

      Best,
      Erin
