Getting There!

I spent another 3 or 4 hours in my classroom today. Yes, I still have nearly 7 weeks of holidays before the new year begins, but I despise leaving all the preparations until the week before (obviously!). Don't feel too bad for me... I capped off the day with a wonderful manicure and pedicure!

I'm feeling a little pressure putting pressure on myself to get things organized after my classroom switch AND grade change. My hubby and I leave on Tuesday for nearly three weeks in Northern Europe, and I needed to have some time on my own in there while I could. I feel a whole lot better about leaving it now!

Last week, I posted about my awful math manipulative bins. You can read about that HERE if you'd like. Take a look at some of the "Before" shots...

... and the "After" shots...

Look at those shiny, new bins!! AND I was able to condense the shelves enough to leave room for my kiddos' mailboxes! This is where I'll have them store their agendas, and I can easily hand out notices to take home each night. No labels on anything yet, but like I said... it is still early!

I got some of my storage space hidden:
One of the big surprises in my classroom was all this shelving that I didn't have before! That's where all of my 5th grade resources are going to live!

...And now! It isn't perfect, but that's because the shelves aren't straight. (And I'm such a perfectionist I almost changed it!)
I used flannel-backed tablecloths from our dollar store for this. They are thicker than the regular plastic ones, so you can't see everything through them easily, PLUS I'll be able to attach something to the outside if I'd like!

I also started to figure out how I will organize my room... here's the first stage of a writing center:
By this point, I was nearly dying of heat, so I called it a day.
It isn't much, but it is a start! :)

  1. Erin,
I applaud your storage bins for manipulatives. I am back teaching 5th grade math (actually I will be teaching all the 5th grade subjects.) No more blocking! I will so be copying your wonderful ideas! Have fun on your vacation!

  2. Looks great, Erin! I'm somewhat envious - I can't get into my room yet. Maybe that's ok because the third floor would be very hot this week. I have been making lots of great stuff for school on my computer though. I love your pretty magazine holders. :)

    1. Thanks, Brandee! I'm ready to leave it until August now! I'm feeling a little better about the state that it is in to go away on our holiday! :)
